Overview
The access point allows your wireless LAN easy,
seamless and secure connectivity to your existing Wired LAN or to
the Internet at 22Mbps! Using the new 2.4GHz IEEE802.11b Wireless
LAN standard and Packet Binary Convolutional Code (PBCC) Technology,
the device gives you not only increased speed and mobility between
your desktop, the conference room, or the Campus (with automatic
'roaming') - but also the ability to communicate in both PC and Mac
environments. Set-up is easy with the Web browser interface.
The design of this product is based on advanced
bridge-on-a-chip module, a highly integrated ASIC designed to
combine legacy LANs with wireless LANs. The Access Point performs
all the necessary inter-networking and bridging functions. It
receives data from both networks, stores them locally for further
processing, installs and maintains connections and transmits the
packets to the proper destination.
In addition to be an Access Point, there are three
other operating modes applicable. Wireless
bridge can be used to connect Ethernet LANs with wireless; AP
Client mode turn an Ethernet device talks to a wireless LAN Access
Point and repeater mode can be used to repeat signals where
the original AP is too far away from the clients.
