I believe its the MTU size cause the problem, please be suggested to change the MTU size setting. The default setting for PPPoE is 1492, please set it to decrease the value. Each time let it reduces by 8, and that should solve the email problem.

For UIS1400-C7, VPN is pass throuth. That means it is not concerned by the router for VPN setup for your LAN client. You may just setup your VPN client and your server by your client programs procedures.
