Q10: What is VDSL Converter?

The VDSL converter is a switching architecture with RJ45 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet and one 10Mbps RJ11 symmetric Ethernet over VDSL port. It is ideal for signal conversion by transmitting the Ethernet data from the standard twisted pair cable to the telephone cable and extending the distance.

Q09: How long is the VDSL over Ethernet telephone cable supported?

Depending on the quality of telephone line, the maximum distance of one VDSL segment is 4000 feet (1.3Km). We got some data as following table:

Q08: What is the throughput on telephone line?

Two sets of the converters could be used to link two local area networks that are located in different areas. Through the normal telephone line, it could setup a 10Mbps symmetric backbone but one converter must be used as Master mode and the other one as Slave mode. Symmetry means 10Mbps upstream and 10Mbps downstream data rate.

 

Q07: Is there any software required for VDSL Converter?

No, the converter does not require any software configuration. Users can immediately use any feature of this product simply by attaching the cables and plug power on.
 

Q06: Can I use PBX or public telephone line with VDSL Converter?

No.

The VDSL converter is used for point-to-point connection only and allows data and voice work on the same telephone lines. There is no PBX and transition of the cable allowed between master and slave device.

 

Q05: Why there are two RJ-11 connectors?

There are two RJ-11 connectors, one for voice device connection (like telephone) and the other one for network line connection. Voice and data works in different frequencies so as to be transmitted simultaneously. In other word, if you connect two LANs with a telephone line through VDSL converter, you may connect another RJ-11 port to a telephone, and the partner VDSL converters RJ-11 port to the PBX. Then you get a remote extension telephone on the same line.

Q04: What is the impedance of the telephone line that I can use?

In general, the impedance of telephone line could work under 160ohm.

 

Q03: What is the Switch of Master device (ASYM/SYM) for?

Switch mode can be adjusted linking at HomePNA (ASYM) status or VDSL(SYM) status. For the HomePNA (ASYM) mode, it provides 3M upstream and 10M down stream speed. It will extend 4000 feet with 0.4mm cable. For the VDSL (SYM) mode, it provides 10M upstream and 10M downstream. It will extend 4000 feet with 0.4 mm cable. Both of them, the distance will change by the quality of cable.

  

Q02: Why there are four RJ-45 connectors for LAN connection?

These four RJ-45 connectors are integrated with a 10/100Mbps switch function that can be used to connect to LAN stations and servers.
